About the rafters? Until the report, he had no comments regarding the roof! I'm slowly losing faith that it has been thoroughly inspected elsewhere so far. What was really shocking was the carpenter who, despite the identified defect, spoke of an acceptable construction! Through acquaintances, I learned that even the screw in the end grain is not permissible and provides no structural benefit! How would you proceed now?

Write an official complaint about defects, if not done already

I have already sent a letter with the expert report to all involved companies asking them to respond and fix the defects by date X. What really makes me sad is the carpentry's stubborn insistence that everything is fine. Mistakes can happen, that's not a big deal, but then the carpentry should at least admit to it.

Be sure to note the (not just subtle) differences between a somewhat less friendly hello once and a legally effective notice of defects!

To me, it looks like something cobbled together by a general handyman rather than a master craftsman, apparently a DIYer googled wood joints and overlooked that you can’t just scale those from a rabbit hutch up to a residential house. I have serious doubts about the training quality of your construction workers. Emotionally, we are happy to be your morning get-together where you can vent your woes – legally, however, I advise you to involve a lawyer. Is the master butcher now working with wood? *SCNR*

More important is to know where the 2 cm of air come from.

Since the foundation slab is also too short and was "attached," there are gaps in the insulation, and apparently the dimensions are overall inaccurate. Hypothesis: incorrectly bound or the wall where the beam rests is 2 cm too far outside...

Overall, I see it the same way as 11ant - specialist lawyer. Every carpenter I know – and I know many – would either have a heart attack at the sight or feel their carpentry honor offended. Because they particularly value clean connections and transitions. Unless they are those nail plate carpenters – they have no honor.
