Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a two-story single-family house with a basement with the architect. Basically, the floor plan is set, but I have not yet reached a conclusion regarding the staircase and entrance area.

Two variants are shown in the attachment.
Variant 1 Straight staircase:
Visually, I like this, but what bothers me a bit is that you always have to pass the "dirty area" by the front door. I would pull the stair steps further into the hallway so you can enter from the side, but I do not find it ideal.

Variant 2 Quarter-turn staircase:
The advantage here is that the entrance area is somewhat separated. The disadvantage is that the front door with the side glass element becomes about 14cm narrower. And you should probably notch the ceiling around the staircase dimension of 1.40m to have enough headroom.

For the WC, I would plan a small wardrobe instead of the shower for everyday clothing and shoes.

In your opinion, what is the better solution? Or any completely different ideas?

Best regards
Tobias

No opinion, no ideas: the excerpt shown is simply not a sufficient basis for that. Bet that nothing else is set if you show more than just the stairs here?

We faced exactly this problem with the dirt area right at the stairway entrance. 90% of all floor plans shown to us had the stairway directly next to the door. For us, that was a no-go. However, as already mentioned, I find it difficult to judge this based on such a small excerpt alone. Especially the stairs can completely ruin the entire floor plan. We actually planned a lot "around the stairs." It was clear that the stairway should not be right next to the front door. A U-shaped stairway without a landing was chosen, and the hallway and adjoining rooms as well as the upper floor were then built around it...

The cutout is really too small. I don't find either option very good. Either right next to the door or you come in and (presumably) have a railing directly next to you. You could also rotate the stairs just as an idea, but that would mess up the upper floor (which we don't know).

The fear of having the step next to the entrance is exaggerated. Personally, I like the straight staircase here better - just as it was originally planned. If having the entrance is such a mega problem, you can just put a [Vorhaus] in front of it.

Thank you for the answers. Turning the staircase would be good for the ascent to the upper floor, but as mentioned by "face26," the floor plan on the upper floor no longer works, and then the basement stairs would lead down right at the entrance. Which surely is not nice either. I also think it is too tight for a door in front of the basement entrance. With the vestibule, the question is how it could be designed and, above all, how much additional cost would be incurred as a result? I could upload the entire floor plan this evening if that is helpful.
