Hello,

we recently received the building permit and construction is about to start soon. Regarding the construction power, I informed myself in advance and it was said that it would not be a problem (not a new development area). Now it got serious and it turned out that a provisional connection would mean over 50m of cable and the electrician discussed with the city to have the house connection installed directly from the provisional setup. So far so good. But now I have learned that this gray box (house connection pillar) is supposed to remain permanently on our property. I was assuming it would only stay for the time until the connection is led into the building, but that does not seem to be the case. Is there a way to remove the "gray box" after completion? Has anyone had similar experiences?
Thank you very much

Well, probably deregistration & decommissioning/dismantling and then re-registration with the house connection in the house. Costs money though. I wouldn't do it. I also now have a column standing right at the border. Maybe a hedge will go around it anyway, or the trash bin spot or something else. It's not a big deal. The advantage of a box is that if something needs to be done, nothing has to be done inside the house...

We also have the pillar and I also thought that the part was only temporary. I find it extremely ugly, but we will then try to hide it with planting.

The electrician said that relocating the house connection inside would definitely cost four figures. But it would have been tight timewise anyway, since I only realized late that the pillar would stay. Let's see how much it really bothers us after moving in.

So I have to say, I am definitely willing to invest a low four-figure amount at the beginning. The thing would stand between our driveway and entrance. So totally in the way….

um, aren’t you the one to decide that? So, for me, I defined the position. I placed it directly at the boundary next to the (future) entrance gate. There will be a fence/hedge anyway. The costs will probably be rather in the mid-range overall, I think. Just the one-time connection cost me over 1200. The decommissioning was also something around 800, and then again the connection into the house (which is more expensive because it’s a longer distance, at least compared to the pillar at the boundary) and if the pillar is to be dismantled, that will certainly cost a few hundred EUR as well. But it could also be that your utility/network operator has different prices and rules.

So according to his spontaneous estimate, it was about ~1500 euros. For us, it was also a timing issue because the whole thing naturally has to be applied for with the network operator and the development was imminent. In other words, shortly afterward, the trench for the house connection was opened again and the cable was pulled from the box into the house (+ additional connections). If electricity is already available in the house and extra digging is required again, it will certainly be more expensive. I also do not want to exclude that our electrician may have forgotten some costs in the estimate. It’s best if you ask your electrician directly; he will have to apply for it anyway.
