How long does something like that take and what does it look like?

Don't say that. Enough looking at a plastic wall.

It depends on what you plant. Virginia creeper grows quite fast and dense, ivy similarly, clematis depends. None of them grow very strongly in width. Climbing roses also work. Fruit bushes like raspberries also produce canes quickly.

I personally also believe that complete privacy screening is not necessary. It is sufficient if the line of sight is mostly interrupted so that you don't feel like you're on a silver platter. Or you place an opaque element with loose greenery or hedge at the critical points and the rest

We also have the problem of too little garden space, I would also like it greener but then we are missing 50-60cm right away.

What I have seen now are wooden rhombus fences, often combined with other materials.

Practically 120cm of wood then 60cm glass or granite palisades etc.

A few years ago we also did it with double rod mesh fence and gravel somehow but I still won't be happy.

It looks great of course but at the moment the money isn’t there for it. Besides, I had already bought the fence at the beginning of the year :D Maybe a few more infos why fence and why now. We only have raffstores on the ground floor and when it’s windy those things go up and are locked. Additionally, in the corner facing the street we have quite large corner windows which means in the evening when it’s stormy and we watch TV anyone can really see inside very well. Of course, there isn’t much pedestrian traffic here but the feeling is still unpleasant. With a view to the coming winter where it will be dark for a very long time, we want to have immediate privacy screening. We will remove the privacy screen from the fence again as soon as the greenery in front is tall enough. But at the moment I see no other (affordable) alternative.

Blackout curtains? Pleated blinds? You’re not building a fence only to remove it again later.
