I think everyone believes that. The fact that in practice almost no one probably does it shows that it turns out differently than you think ...

With higher income, living costs often increase as well, since some fees are linked to income, and then 2 cars, clothing, and [Die Großstadt]. That makes you an average earner.

For 500 euros in insurance, I had to cough briefly. Then I did the math. We have about 27 euros monthly for insurance, excluding the car:

15 euros risk life insurance, smoker rate: was forced on us (condition for taking out a home loan).
Legal protection, annual 104 euros (monthly 8.66 euros).
Liability insurance, 40 euros annually: 3.33 monthly.

Building insurance is more like ancillary costs, right? That adds another 35 euros monthly.

Two cars, then another 200 just for liability + about 200 (this is a tariff including comprehensive insurance = 275 euros, no idea how the liability portion is, not listed separately). So about 35 euros per month.

All insurances are of course with different insurers (total of 7 insurers), otherwise it gets really expensive. The mistake of having everything with one insurer, for example my father-in-law makes, and pays at least twice as much everywhere for his convenience as we do.

The kicker is probably my health insurance, 15 euros per month. But I won’t count that now, since the contributions come out of gross income.

2x Riester are already 270€, then 2 car insurances total monthly 137€ + occupational disability 100€ + supplementary health insurance 25€ + household/liability/building insurance 50€ + 25€ legal protection. It adds up. But to the original question, it always depends on what I want. For example, if good food is not important to me, I can probably get by at Aldi with 250€ per month. But if you are building, I don't want to have money worries on top of the stress. Because I also know only a few who actually use the sometimes expensive special repayments.

With us, they were included in the contract without being asked, we have now made a one-time special repayment (maximum amount) in the 3 years that the loan has been running, and we will make one more until the end of the fixed interest period in just under 2 years. Nothing more was possible, we are poor suckers .

I envy you. We pay about 1300 EUR for insurance per month. (650 private health insurance (me + child), 250 disability insurance, 150 life insurance, 100 car insurance and other nonsense) ...... Because of the injustice of the compulsory insurance for the child with the main earner, people have already taken the matter to the Federal Constitutional Court and the lawsuits have so far always been dismissed. That's how it is in Germany... The main thing is that the middle class foots the bill. >80% tax revenue is obviously still not enough...
