Unfortunately, I am only an "Information Engineer" (because computer scientist sounds too boring) and cannot contribute much to the construction. At our stand, there were still a few sentences on the topic "is the building ground suitable" and "what needs to be considered when building roads". For a carport, 5.5m might just be enough but a bit tight. 2m for the car, leaving space on one side for posts and possible cladding. 3m per car would be better.

Phew... a plot of land one meter wider would be nice, but there is always something... maybe I'll make a separate post about it under "Grundstücksplanung" - let's see what ideas come up.

I would bring some sun into the house through the south and west windows. For that, I would allow a bit more space to the neighbor or street than a carport needs ;) But everyone has different goals with their house...

Thousand for not thinking about it and zero against? - then go ahead. And yes, 5.50 m width for a double carport is not spacious, but doable (as long as we are not talking about two Phaetons).
