In case of a tendency to kidney stones in the family, softer water is also recommended (Kalk = calcium carbonate = higher risk)

If you only want to soften the hot water, the system would either have to be connected behind the hot water heat pump - i.e. no device protection for the most expensive device in the house. Or a separate cold water line would have to be installed for the hot water heat pump - the same effort as simply laying a separate line for "drinking water," without the disadvantages elsewhere (see e.g. )

Regarding the question of dishwasher and washing machine. Every dishwasher has a water softening system inside, that's why you put salt in it. And washing machines, every detergent softens water. Even without calgon. K.

Why pollute the environment when you already have the water softener installed in the basement?!

If the goal is to have "tasty" water in the kitchen, simply run a cold water line past the softener there. It doesn't cost the earth.
