Demolition: Anything to consider regarding new construction?

Our architect said the same. That’s why the demolition contractor simply removes the house and leaves a hole. He might even make it a bit deeper while the heavy equipment is already there, in case we decide to have a basement.

But you can’t leave the hole open for an extended period. The walls will collapse when it rains, and can you ensure that children won’t play in it?
Also, it is surely more cost-effective to bring fill material along with the removal of the debris. That’s how they did it for us.

Yes, preferably the famous "Parents are responsible for their children" sign, which is pretty much legally useless.
Even if it is legally secure, can you live with the fact that children might still get hurt?

No, they climb over it. I didn’t say kids should be wrapped in cotton wool. They need to have their experiences. I just wouldn’t want to be responsible if a child got buried under a collapsed excavation wall. Experiences from which the child can no longer learn are pretty bad.
