Divide among 3 children and keep. Do not demolish the house, but choose 1 or 2.

where 20 years of mowing 2500m2 of lawn for maybe the children/grandchildren to use it once would not be motivating for me, I would quickly get the 4000m2 mowing robot on it

Divide the property into three parts. Issue a leasehold and enjoy the profits - the leasehold contract can also regulate what kind of building can be constructed. For example, only three bungalows, so that there are no "big clunkers".

I would first buy and then slowly tear down myself. If the children then want to have houses themselves or have moved out, build a bungalow there yourself. And then bequeath the too large house to one of the children. Transfer a part of the property to the other child/children. I would not rent out or only do so temporarily if the children have a need.

Even in unplanned inner areas, you cannot do whatever you want. For example, not three bungalows instead of one house. That could, for instance, mean 9 parking spaces. And development plans can also be created. Demolishing and then hoping that in 15 years you can build however you want – or what would be possible today – is very optimistic. I would probably demolish and build a small two-family house with the option to revert to a single-family house.

The best posts are those that tell such stories with cadastral excerpts and aerial photos. I don’t really understand that, especially in connection with talk of existing offspring including a teenager. I’m also in favor of not packing too many silver spoons into the kids’ backpacks, but whether the second plot is rented, built on, or just meadow doesn’t make that much difference anymore.
