Legally, however, you lose then. After a notification of defects, the seller must be given the opportunity to remedy the defects. Actually, twice. Only if these repairs are not acceptable can the purchase be reversed. You can then try to claim additional costs incurred, but that's really for those fond of disputes with legal expenses insurance. The repair must restore a condition equivalent to a new state. Or a reduction in value must be agreed upon.

I am interested in the topic, that's why I am still in here. It will never be equivalent to the new state. Certainly not with a touch-up pen. This is not a vacuum cleaner that breaks down, is repaired, and then works like new afterwards. He can offer a reduction in value, but you do not have to accept it. That would be like a contract concluded unilaterally that is imposed on me. Right? EDIT: The topic is easy if the carpenter knowingly installed the defective doors, meaning all the scratches were already present during installation and he could not have overlooked them, then nothing has to be repaired. Then he has to replace them with new ones, no matter how elaborate that is. See Google, info from a lawyer.

You are right about that, but I do not want to accept defect repair with a paint pen, not with this extent. He insists. That means there will be no defect repair, which then makes it legally interesting.

I would try to negotiate a compromise. The small dents on the door frames can be repaired, the doors will be replaced. A discount for the frames. They cannot be sensibly refurbished either. The hourly wage is higher than the purchase price of the door. We have similar, inexpensive doors in our apartment and after transport they sometimes looked like that too. But that was us ourselves and we didn't care because we intentionally bought the doors so cheaply – with two wild boys, no high-quality door will be installed here anytime soon. That has to wait until they are teenagers and only sit in their rooms.

That was exactly my proposed solution – he categorically refuses to exchange the doors. I can only explain that by the fact that it’s not new goods (at least partly). He also rejects a price reduction.
