The beetle wood is - apart from the fact that the tree is no longer vital and the reason to leave it standing is limited - fully usable and rather "partially discolored" than diminished in its technical usability and value. And unfortunately, an unwanted harvest surplus of softwood does not help to satisfy demand for hardwood.

For what else and why not? - it is good wood.

Of course the wood is good. But it is too fresh and needs drying, which simply takes time. Cutting and using it immediately is not smart.

Small update at this point. We have now talked to a local carpentry company regarding further steps. They also said that they would like to use the existing beams, battens, etc. This can save quite a bit. However, they also mentioned that they would have a plan made first, in order to then cut the wood. Otherwise, there would be too much waste. We will now store our long timber for about half a year and hope that the sawmills' capacity allows for processing soon. We also hope that we can start the concrete construction planning/architect work shortly. In the meantime, some roof battens of 5m are already being cut with a mobile sawmill and also stored.
