We once had a large scratch on a delivered screen. The first response we received was that this was not a valid complaint defect because the screen itself was still functioning. Somehow this just reminds me.......the thing has to go, period!

He just wants to scare you with the cleaning, etc. That is not your problem, but his.

The plaster issue is not your problem. That is their problem. Rather ask if the replacement won't make it worse because of sealing, etc.

I wouldn't decide something like that alone; someone knowledgeable should be involved.

I would also bring an expert on board. In my opinion, simply painting over it is not sufficient.

The statement during the frame replacement that damage to plaster and facade is to be expected is an outrageous disgrace. It sounds as if you would have to live with these damages. But that is his problem.

Milling off and putting a strip over it is botched work. The profile consists of several chambers. No one knows beforehand how many of the chambers will be damaged/milled off as a result. This creates a thermal bridge, even if a small one. The frame loses stability. When exposed to sunlight, stress arises that can no longer be dissipated through the actual profile. The frame must be removed and a new one installed. As has already written, the question arises where the crack comes from. If the crack occurred after the window was already installed, stresses appear that should not be there. Therefore, an expert would be advisable. For me, the fact that the crack was initially concealed like this borders on fraudulent misrepresentation.

The fear is absolutely justified, that’s why I say bring in an expert. My expectation is that the seller will get one of his installation subs who has fewer complaints under their belt than the one who originally installed it here. But the second one will do it again as a one-man show; the seller will not hire a separate trained plasterer.
