The plaster issue is not your problem. That is their problem.
I rather question whether the replacement might make things worse because of the sealing, etc.
I wouldn’t decide such a thing alone; someone knowledgeable should be involved.
Sealing and so on is an important point. The money necessary for that can certainly be well invested.
The concern is absolutely justified, that’s why I say get an expert involved. My expectation is that the seller will get one of his installer subs with fewer complaints on their record than the one who originally installed it. But the second one will then again do it as a one-man show; the seller will not commission a separate trained plasterer.
We only have the contract with the general contractor. He passes on all complaints that do not concern his work one-to-one to the sub. We have no influence on the executing party.
