Yeah, well, we’re not done yet, maybe some big surprise will come at the end – but so far we really can't complain. He is just very committed. Example again today: It's not exactly common for a GU to accept that you remove sanitary items from the contract against credit, order them yourself online, and the GU still installs the items. But last Friday our bathroom furniture (the cabinets) arrived, and today the rest came by freight forwarder. And the GU came to us both days, picked up the items with a van, and is now storing them in a hall until the construction is far enough along for them to be installed. That’s really like hitting the jackpot. I think you only find people like that in villages and face to face, not over the internet. =)

He really seems to be an absolute stroke of luck.

And if the woman has already decided, does it even make sense to discuss prices here? Apparently, there is no freedom of choice left.

That was also intended less as a discussion contribution and more to continue the chronicle in the thread regarding the timing of the request, the scope of the work, and the related costs.
Of course, there is a pain threshold even for this scope, but considering all influencing factors, it seems it has not quite been reached yet, which is why we will proceed with implementation.

What I actually forgot to mention is that the glass will be custom-made to fit the curves of the underside of the stairs, so not just pure trapezoidal glass but an absolute special custom-made product. That will certainly add a few thousand euros to the cost.

That explains a lot, I had really wondered how it could be so expensive. But with custom-made items, costs add up quickly. I would love to have my dream wardrobe in the hallway, exactly crafted by a carpenter like in a photo - but I will only inquire about the price once I have won the lottery. Does that mean your parapet is not only on top, but also the railing/the side of the staircase gets this glass? Or how is "Rundung der Treppenunterseite" to be understood?

I am attaching a sample photo to explain this beyond any doubt

small update: We unexpectedly received an offer of 11.7k from a master glazier company. It seems that their order situation is not so good, so they also take on jobs with a good 45 minutes drive. We were really happy and of course immediately agreed after we had discussed the exact scope. We "saved" a good 4.3k compared to the first offer. We were quite amazed at how large the price differences can be.
