Both have advantages and disadvantages. In summer, the schedule constantly shifts because the craftsmen are all fully booked. In winter, most craftsmen have more time. Depending on the construction company and the size of the project, a shell without a basement can be built quite quickly. The roof truss and tiles or insulation and roofing felt can also be mostly completed in a few weeks. Interior finishing is delayed in both cases. In winter, it gets dark and unpleasant quite quickly, so owner participation (at least in the outdoor area) is limited for most builders.

Hello Bayer, we started construction in mid-February (massiv) and moved in four weeks ago. We were very lucky with the weather because it was dry during the shell construction phase and no rain came in. We did quite a bit of work ourselves, including the exterior insulation, laying empty conduits for the electricity, painting the roof overhang, ... and that partly at temperatures around 0°C. If you bundle up warmly and keep moving, it works, but it wasn’t pleasant, and I always looked forward to the hot bath in the evening.
Still, I would do it the same way again. The craftsmen were available and everything went very quickly - nowadays it’s rather difficult to get a craftsman quickly.

Thank you very much for your feedback
: no, neither is the building permit approved nor has the construction company been chosen nor is everything fixed in writing. A construction company offered us to do it in October. They still have room. But we have to decide quickly and they say the approval will work out. Everything is somewhat under pressure. The other companies say next year in spring maybe still in autumn but rather not.

: That was insanely fast for you. You really pushed hard. Are you already done with plaster and everything or is it "only" somewhat livable? Honestly, I would like that option. Start in February and then move in in autumn or winter.

Phew - so it took me over nine months for both the bank contracts and the building application. That wasn’t a problem in my case since the architect also had a correspondingly long waiting list. But unless the authorities in Bavaria are much faster than in Baden-Württemberg and you don’t already have a finished building plan (with an acceptable final price including desired features), I consider starting construction within eight weeks quite optimistic.

Just the time it takes to have the soil samples taken, evaluated, and included in the structural calculations is already four weeks gone...

I wish you much success, but advise you not to rush into anything.

: We might actually already have the plaster, if we hadn't brought in the gardener as a cover. The scaffolding would have just been in the way, so the plaster will probably come in September/October, but I can live with that. The ground floor is basically finished, we'll do the rest little by little because we also have a lot of DIY work there. Many greetings!

We also plan to start construction at the end of October (however with a basement), if we have the building permit by then. If winter comes, the start will be postponed to next year. Our BU said that as long as the weather is reasonably suitable and temperatures do not fall below 5 degrees, construction can still begin. And then we'll see what this winter brings us.

However, you should not let yourself be pressured by time or other factors when choosing your construction partner.
