Reason?
The water damage caused by a leaking dishwasher in a rental apartment was covered by the landlord's building insurance for an acquaintance. The household insurance covered the damage to the kitchen, and the acquaintance's liability insurance was not involved.

In the case of the dishwasher, it was a pipe damage, right?! Not the case here currently. The household insurance only covers the carpet and cabinets and such, but not floor coverings etc.

You are right about the household insurance, but I still lack the reason why the building insurance should not pay.

My building insurance fully settled a similar damage without any deduction.

This is a building insurance claim because water leakage is from the sanitary installation (that is, from the inside, not from the outside) and permanently attached parts of the building (walls/floor coverings) are damaged, not movable furniture (-> household contents).

therefore always advisable to have buildings and household contents from one address.
