The original condition is simply intact parquet and wallpaper of a certain price category. I see little problem with that, provided you have the appropriate building insurance and there was no negligence involved.

Define negligence. The previous owner hadn’t told us anything, it’s quite possible he didn’t know himself. Sure, a silicone joint is a maintenance joint, but we hadn’t checked every joint, and standing in the shower without glasses, it was not apparent at all... even the craftsman who first inspected it had to search until the point of water ingress was clear. We understand that we will have to bear the costs for the repairs in the bathroom; the shower was a custom-made one, after all. But having to renovate the entire hallway at our own expense now would be financially extremely tough :(

Intact parquet flooring referring to the affected spot or rather the entire room? Wallpaper of a price range specifically referring to the damaged spot or the costs it would cause to properly renovate a hallway and not just wallpaper and paint one strip differently? The hallway, for example, was/is painted in a shade of yellow, and the paint is a few years old. Apart from the question of whether we will get THIS exact shade from somewhere – even if we do, it stands out extremely and looks at least as ridiculous as the damage does now.

I give up. Some experiences maybe should just be had personally... If this is even meant seriously at all.

Something seems to upset you, that was not my intention and also misses the point. I am asking specifically, I am an absolute layman: is the previous condition in your opinion thus, do you want to understand that the insurance then also covers the repair of an entire room, with materials in a certain price range of course, even if the entire room has not been damaged?

The insurance sets the pace here. Don’t you have any insurance office / broker?

My insurance office had the authority to settle up to €2,500. Named approximate costs, had it done, and I already had the money in my account...
