The water just has to be able to drain. And not just a little, but completely. Despite rather poor infiltration, we still plan to build at ground level. The concrete slab will already come up quite well, and then there’s the screed on top. That should be high enough to create a proper slope away from the house and once across the property.Yes, standing water or occasional heavy rainfall is not the problem. A drainage channel or even just a slope away from the house is enough. But in Berlin, in the last 10 years, we’ve had two heavy rain events where you really waded through water up to your ankles or knees and subway stations were flooded (I think someone even drowned there once). Then you’re happy to have over 40 cm more before all the slag runs into your house....
