Or pedestals are no longer modern, today barrier-free construction is the norm ;)

Ok, that may be the case, but it also entails much more severe problems. In any case, the train has long left the station for me. I certainly will not raise the entire area by 40 cm (and install drainage everywhere).

No, something like that has to be taken into account during planning.

I had held back on the actual topic so far due to a lack of specific experience, but with a base made of WPC or wooden planks I would simply pave right up to the house wall and then put together a makeshift pedestal in front of it. Between the house and the paving only the [Noppenfolie]. If you make the concrete base... actually the house should already be energetically decoupled from the outside world. I think you can pour concrete right up to the wall.

Presumably, nowadays indeed only a very small minority does it themselves, reasons can be diverse :)

A full concrete base may be exaggerated, on the other hand: 1. From my perspective, there is no significant difference in effort whether you "shape" the strip foundations or completely fill them 2. with a concrete base you remain more flexible regarding the "covering" 3. theoretically, you should save on the thickness of the covering in the case of a concrete base ...

Yes, I didn't really want to follow my father-in-law's argument either. I am still torn between a wooden platform (my terrace definitely has to be wood) and a concrete base. I also have no idea yet what kind of final covering should go on it. : I think the separation is not only intended as a thermal break but also because of different settling behavior. If you pour right onto it, it will otherwise crack unsightly. If you plan with a joint from the start, you can at least make it elastic.

Then I'll report. We did it similarly. Small concrete strip foundation around, about 30 deep and 20 wide. In the middle, the compacted soil was left. Separated from the house only with a dimpled membrane. On top, the base was then built with granite stones. Also with a dimpled membrane towards the house. However, we then grouted the dimpled membrane so that it is not visible. Maybe not completely professional, but it holds, doesn't crack, and is sufficient.
