Climbing plants on the house - yes or no - experiences?

My husband and I disagree about climbing plants on the house. I would like a beautiful trellis right next to the front door. Then a wisteria or a clematis, etc., could grow on it.

Now my husband is strictly against it. It would damage the house, have lots of bugs in it, grow into the gutter, and so on. I am totally in favor because I think it is really beautiful. And even if the plant destroys the plaster, I either have to renew it anyway or I will be dead.

Do you have plants right on your new house or rather not? Any experiences?

A clematis won't damage the house. Show your husband the difference between plants that need a trellis and those with adhesive feet (ivy and grapevine, for example), which can of course eventually damage the plaster, yes. I'm also already considering whether I want a vine on the brick-clad back of the garage...

He already knows the difference, but it still makes the white plaster dirty... The fact that the plant is over it is unimportant. Just the thought of it drives him crazy. ;)

Ok then just stay in the lower area and for example plant espalier fruit trees in front? Or a wisteria? Which side of the house is it?

The entrance is on the north side. At first, you might think nothing grows there, but at the moment it's the only spot where it's still green. ;)

Espalier fruit is a really cool idea. Maybe it could convince my husband too, because of the fruit harvest. I wonder if there are also shade shrubs for that?
