Yes, but there are filters for the systems themselves and also for the pipes/valves. And every 10-15 years you can go through them with a brush.

There is no doubt that filters in the exhaust pipe help keep dust away. I have even observed it at my friend's place. His pipes look much cleaner than mine. However, he does not take maintenance very seriously and rarely changes the filters.

So

The advantages:

- Dust enters the exhaust pipe in significantly smaller amounts. Cleaning of the pipe needs to be done less frequently.

The disadvantages:

- Additional resistance of the filter can prevent air exchange.

- The resistance of the filter depends on the contamination of the filter. This means it changes over time, i.e., making the calibration of supply and exhaust air valves more difficult.

- Uneven contamination of the filters can lead to an uneven distribution of airflow in the pipe network (the airflow chooses the path of least resistance). In the worst case, some pipes receive no airflow at all.

- Maintenance becomes increasingly complicated. The filter must be replaced at every exhaust air valve.

- During maintenance, care must be taken to keep the settings of supply and exhaust air valves unchanged.

I look forward to your comments.

Small update I wanted to take some photos of the pipeline and found this in the supply air pipe. It was pierced with a screw! Unfortunately, I couldn't get a better picture with my simple endoscope. I'm curious to hear what my developer will say on Monday. Does anyone have experience with this?

Our supply and exhaust air are on different sides of the house. They should not be installed on the same side.

An additional sealing tape is applied in our system. It is airtight. Even after the summer with the relatively loosely fitted bypass, no dirt can be found. The filters in the ventilation system itself are also quickly cleaned and replaced.

The system is designed with filters in the exhaust air. Removing the grille and vacuuming or replacing the filter is really no effort.

Do you mean an exhaust air filter in the exhaust air valve?
Every technical system requires maintenance/cleaning. The only question is when. In my case, a supply air pipe is perforated (I only hope at one spot, my endoscope is only 7 m long). Even after 10 years, I cannot clean the pipe. I hope that my builder will repair it.
So the first inspection was worthwhile for me. It wouldn’t be bad to inspect all pipes along their entire length.

That is annoying. Does it let through a lot of air? I would be annoyed too. Our supply air ducts are all thickly embedded in the screed.

Do yours look like that after such a long time, as in the picture? We have smooth ducts inside and a higher air flow with a stronger air current than pure controlled residential ventilation systems. Let's see.

Better to clean or replace the filter than to clean behind radiators.
