The kitchen should preferably be closed off because of odors.
The most untenable argument for a closed kitchen (I am repeating myself here in the forum...). To counter odors (well, for me it smells good when I cook... but that's just a side note) help:
a) good exhaust system, used properly
b) controlled residential ventilation (more than you think)
c) thorough airing after meals
d) cold kitchen (without strongly scented cheese)
But a door does not help.
I have often criticized here the, in my opinion, pointless planning of wasting ample space for another full dining area in the living room just about a meter away from a fully functional dining area in the kitchen. Either or!
A huge amount of space is planned here for the dining area. You can either make a nice dining area there or enlarge the kitchen accordingly and integrate it into the kitchen.
I would also prefer an open concept here, but that is a matter of taste.
