Then the state building code applies?! Zoning plans only impose restrictions and basically attach to the applicable state building code. But it is already somewhat old with you. How does it look in the neighborhood? In my opinion, building authorities adapt the approval of old zoning plans to modern standards. Especially when it comes to modern vehicle fleets.

In the neighborhood, everyone has the garage to the left next door. Only the house two doors down has a kind of carport set halfway onto the green area aka front yard. Diagonally opposite, a concrete garage has been built directly on this front yard. So much for the building authority :)

That doesn’t tell us anything now, since we don’t know the timeline of the construction projects.

There is no chaos there. The principle of discretion applies. The case where two legally single-story buildings are considered by laypeople as one actually single-story, but the other two-story, is already a classic here :)

I am still working on the topic. I haven’t yet found my way around the extensive material directly on the KfW site. But I know that the Verbraucherzentrale Nordrhein-Westfalen (we don’t live there) provides guidance, and municipalities also seem to support greening of carports/garages or reduce the fees for stormwater. Presumably, there are more sources that one can follow up on if interested. I’m looking for Saxony. The information I quickly found was often on the pages of companies that offer green roofing including installation or for DIY.

In our case, the change in the composition of the city council played a role. We already had the telephone OK for our two desired changes, neighbors next door and across the street had also built like that, then other city councilors came and suddenly --> rejection. Since a years-long legal dispute would have cost us too much time, nerves, and energy, we simply gave up our wishes.
