If the tight budget fits in the end, you have done everything right. BUT: If you are not that young anymore, or don’t live in the countryside (where everyone knows everyone or everyone is somehow related ), or you have a family with a child to take care of or whatever, then the plan no longer works. Wish you much success. I’m one of those do-it-yourselfers myself ;)I just don’t understand why I should put up a house for 500k, I have a pretty above-average income so I think it would be less of a problem for me to pay it off than for most here, but why should I pay off for 25 years when the same works for 280k and a bit of effort and hard work after work for 2 years, over 12-15 years? That way I have a bit more endurance later and am not in debt until shortly before retirement, so I’d gladly accept 2 stressful years and rather tinker a bit myself than have half a million in debt afterwards. :)
