Bungalow with hipped roof – Is roof conversion sensible?

More nonsense from development plans. The eaves height specification limits the building volume absolutely sufficiently. How far below the eaves an interior floor ceiling runs does not concern the observer (or the neighbor) at all.

I don’t recall the word "knee wall ban" in the plan, but that’s the outcome. The council was probably also aiming for a certain northern basic aesthetic. Is that justified? Unfortunately, I have read such things several times already – in the worst case "if structurally unavoidable, then at most 30 cm" (which is a joke); but regularly restrictions to 1.5 or 1 or, more rarely, 0.75 m – mind you, in combination with already limited eaves heights, so disproportionately "doubly" restricted.

We are building a bungalow. Hipped roof. 35 degree roof pitch, base plate 133 sqm. 10 by 13.30. However, we are taking the hipped slopes at 45 degrees. The roof as a studio truss. This results in a wonderful expansion possibility upstairs of around 50 usable sqm.

I think the idea is good, but it is not clear to me how this can be implemented energetically. The attic is ultimately a cold room. How can the roof extension be heated afterward if a air-to-water heat pump + underfloor heating is planned in the concept?

The roof is initially a cold roof. We have since insulated it between the rafters. We will not convert it but use it like a dry frost-free cellar. However, if you raise the heating, installing radiators would not be a problem. Since we have a gas boiler, that would also be practically possible. There are also radiators that can work with a heat pump.
