Hello everyone,
what do you think about starting house construction at the beginning/mid November, brick by brick?
Are there any risks, how does it look if winter sets in at the beginning/mid December?

Could there be problems with masonry here, can the shell construction simply be interrupted?
I would like to have your professional opinion on this.

Best regards

We are also starting in November. Where exactly are you building? In the Neckartal, for example, the temperature is rather mild, whereas up on the Alb or in the Black Forest it can get quite cold for a long time. At -5 degrees, there is no more concrete, and work cannot continue. Otherwise, over the past few years, the construction workers have also enjoyed treating themselves to a nice winter tan at pleasant temperatures shortly before Christmas.

Hi!
Last year before Christmas, the floor slab was poured here and masonry work started right on January 5th. Temperatures were above 5 degrees, rather more.
The whole thing was supervised by an external expert and at some point there was a 14-day construction stop because of the cold.
The workers made sure that all wall crowns were well covered in the evenings so that no excessive moisture penetrated.
In the end, however, it still took nine months until moving in....

Cheers, torsan

We are just starting as well. The excavator will arrive here tomorrow. According to the plan, the hut should be structurally complete by the end of Nov. (also stone by stone). Rather cool region, Oberpfalz at 550m above sea level.

We started excavating the foundations today. In 14 days the concrete slab will be poured, then we will stop until the weather improves again. During the downtime I will build the carports and lay out the outdoor area.

We started excavating the construction pit on 18.11. last year. By Christmas, the roof truss was protected from snow and rain. However, it is always a bit warmer in the Rhineland and last winter did not have many really cold days. This year I am looking forward to the Christmas season in the new house. Putting my feet up and remembering how exciting it was for us around this time last year. I wish you all much success, lots of fun, and good craftsmen.
