Building stair railing out of Ytong blocks - Does it hold?

Will it be built directly onto the stairs or next to them?

..because in our case the stairwell is very narrow and I would actually like the side wall as a kind of railing.. meaning not a continuous wall in the middle going upwards.

Alright, but you could, for example, screw/dowel something onto it to make the connection. And Ytong is not just Ytong, he can use something heavier. However, I have only seen it done this way so far, that posts were concreted at the beginning and end, because a free-standing end is quite sensitive and could break off if someone there can't find the straight path after 6 beers.
