I think the idea is great, we are also building again at an advanced age and doing it completely differently than back then with children. Despite many advantages nowadays through technology/information, it is still more exhausting than I thought, although we have had no serious problems with the construction itself so far. If yes, I would definitely want to take time for planning/idea finding. Who knows, maybe it will be something completely different afterwards once you have started on your way. For us now it is different in that we think much more about furnishing, atmosphere and less about numbers and comparative values; in addition, our life regarding growth is plannable, thus finished. I can imagine a modern, open house for many visitors but with the option of small, separate (visitor) apartments for 1-2 children/visitors. In any case, I would approach something like this with an interior designer/architect, so that these functions are taken into account; there is probably less of this off the shelf. Should another person come along at some point, life will adapt again anyway, you never know what or how it will come. So the focus is on planning and design and enough leisure time to plan and design the beautiful things. I would not put myself through a stressful construction with stomach ulcers in your situation, better to rent something nice then.

Hello , I am also alone and currently building a house. I find your considerations completely justified and your conditions sound great. Since you already live in a house, you surely have great ideas about what you definitely want to implement again in the new build and what might be different. I think one should consider eventualities such as new partnerships or general changes in life circumstances for the new planning. I initially also thought about a condominium, but then found the idea of "own development" and design from A to Z much more interesting, since you can create something of your own and I also found a well-shaped plot of land where you can do a lot. So I wish you much success with your project, and for me it sounds like you should go for it!

Exciting + encouraging. Yes, I have been interested in modern architecture for 10+ years ... my bookshelf is full of "Houses of the Year" (mostly "excessively" modern). I think to myself, I am now 45, in 10-15 years it certainly won’t get any easier ...

It’s definitely stressful, but complex projects + challenges are actually my thing :) (ex-entrepreneur). A nice rental apartment is without a doubt the easier way ...

Thanks. Indeed, hybrid rooms are important, especially since I am planning without a basement/attic (at least in my mind). Office and kids’ room will certainly both be guest rooms at the same time (with minor conversion). The spinning bike has to go into the office, unless there is space somewhere for a small fitness room. Two showers should also be in the house (1x ground floor, 1x upper floor).

Well, what can you say? Everyone thinks differently about that. So far, I have built each time according to the current requirements. It worked well, and if the requirements change (long-term), it will simply be rebuilt. But there may be people who actually never want to move again, hence my introductory sentence.

So I have an old house in it but no space to live because of the office. Except for my studies and civilian service, I have never lived in a "foreign" apartment before, but now for 3 years. I have never really settled in and am looking forward to moving in 3 months. If you have such great conditions, I personally wouldn’t hesitate for long ;)
