Hello,
I am looking for a sideboard that has doors on the front and on the back panel or a sideboard that is neatly finished on the back side and does not have particleboard. Both seem not to be available on the market (unless as a €1500 designer piece or custom-made), so I got the idea to build something like this myself.

Now my question: is there a cabinet series at Ikea where you can attach doors on BOTH the front AND the back (preferably sliding doors)? Does anyone have experience with that?

Or alternatively: does anyone happen to have a photo of the back side of the Stockholm sideboard?

Hello,

[Besta] has ABS edges on the front and back. If I remember correctly, the rows of holes on the front and back are equally distant from the edge, so doors (including sliding doors) should be mountable on both front and back. However, then the groove for the back panel would be open. This would need to be covered. Suitable plinths are also available for BESTA. The elements can be individually configured.

One could also use [Faktum] carcasses, but would have to apply edge banding on the back and first fill the edge or remove the overhang. With cover panels, the construction could be framed for a nice surface.

A visit to IKEA would probably be best initially.

So my idea would be to try it with Expedit. There is this insert with a door, which is made up of door-side panel-back panel-side panel (in one piece). It is simply slid into a shelf compartment, as far as I know. I would buy two of them and separate the back panel and side panels (it's just thin chipboard) so that only door-side panel remain, and then insert the two inserts at the front and back. If necessary, the side panels could be fixed with some spray adhesive or similar to prevent anything from slipping out. I have not tried something like this yet, but this is how I would approach the matter.
