Can an Ikea Besta shelf be mounted on the wall?

Are the side walls also made with egg cartons? They are significantly thinner than the lid and bottom. Also, the bottoms can be loaded with 30 kg each. A hole grid in a hollow panel seems strange to me. Therefore, I assumed solid chipboard for the sides. If these are hollow, I would prefer to avoid it as well.

The sides are made of chipboard. But chipboard and solid are actually also a contradiction...

Egg carton? I've never heard of that.

I just copied this from Besta:

Product description & dimensions
Back panel: hardboard, foil
Main parts: chipboard, hardboard, foil, filling made of recycled paper (honeycomb structure)
Top panel/ bottom panel: chipboard, hardboard, foil, filling made of recycled paper (honeycomb structure), polypropylene

Well.

Hello!
I have been an enthusiastic customer at Ikea for many years. No matter what I have bought there so far - it was always absolutely fine and I still like it a long time later. As an art historian, I bought the Besta shelves (item number: 701.340.44) and 2x (item number: 801.340.48) to suit my study.

My books are particularly heavy. I had not read that the shelves are only loadable up to max. 30kg. As a result of my misuse, the side walls of the shelves have now curved outwards. The larger shelf has displaced the two narrower shelves on the right and left so that a gap from top to about halfway between the shelves has become visible. Although I immediately reduced the load, the walls remain bent. My questions:

-Would I have been able to prevent the problem with the recommended wall mounting?
-Is there a way to straighten the outer walls of the shelves again?
-Does a maximum load of 30kg per shelf also mean that you cannot buy and use additional shelves other than those that are included with the purchase?

Thank you very much for any help!
Phil

if you were to attach such a metal cross to the back wall at mid-height, I think it should prevent the outer walls from bending. Of course, that is not the intended purpose...

Hopefully the shelves with the books won't collapse on you^^
