Hello house construction forum,
which option is the "better" one or can you really notice a difference in terms of sound insulation?
17.5 cm plan brick T1.0 and 20 cm ETICS or
17.5 cm calcium silicate brick and 20 cm ETICS?
The single-family house (1.5 stories) is supposed to be KfW 70, about 150 sqm and with triple glazing, etc. Actually a quiet residential area in a dead-end street (4-lane street about 1 km away, you only hear a background noise there).
Although KS is supposed to have better sound insulation, will I notice this as a homeowner (because of windows and roller shutter boxes) or is it just "theoretical"? I was a bit unsettled by posts saying that bricks are so echo-prone and you can have conversations through the exterior wall. Or am I just imagining a "luxury problem" here because I want to build in a quiet residential area anyway and I hardly hear anything from the neighbors? Or does more noise come through the windows and roller shutter boxes anyway than through the wall?
I know it is hard to judge something like this from afar and everyone perceives it differently, but I have some concerns with the brick option regarding sound from/to outside and it seems a bit thin to me and if sockets etc. are also supposed to go into the wall... (but that will of course be calculated/regulated by the structural engineer).
Also, it makes me a bit suspicious that the manufacturer recommends this plan brick "for load-bearing and non-load-bearing interior walls without special sound insulation requirements" and now it is supposed to be used as an exterior wall with ETICS.
Both suppliers are similarly priced, but I would somehow prefer the brickmaker because he is from the neighboring village and the other one is 100 km away.
Many thanks for your advice/tips
