I was corrected once more. It’s not about burglary protection through the shutters themselves, but rather that the noise from trying to pry them open might be a deterrent.
Then you can tell her that a venetian blind with its many slats makes at least as much noise compared to the shutter slats. The shutter is simply pushed up, which is probably even quieter than lowering yours. The venetian blind with its many movable slats isn’t simply pushed up, and if you try to tear it out of its guide, it rattles much more than the relatively uniform shutter slats.
But yes, going against beliefs is difficult, and I admit, I used to cling to that superstition as well...
The only thing I would still accept are aesthetic reasons, although even here, in my opinion, shutters are not the remedy, but at best folding shutters or exterior fabric blinds or vertical awnings or sun sails. However, none of these are as practical in adjusting shading as venetian blinds. Well, enough preaching!
