Yes, actually... Of course you can afford it. Only at the expense of other amenities. And I think some people factor that in as well. And yes, it IS unreasonable. And cheap money and strange financing options are very tempting. Financial and personal circumstances are amazingly quickly ignored and property is financed down to the last penny. In urban areas, it is probably less of a problem. In rural areas, where an increase in value is not guaranteed, it might eventually become a problem.
