Are "floor-to-ceiling windows" on the ground floor the same as "terrace doors"?

Dear forum,
because of a comment by a female commentator in another thread, I realized that my husband and I might have ordered something wrong when buying our prefabricated house. As laypersons, we thought that "floor-to-ceiling windows" are the same as "patio doors," through which we can comfortably step into the garden on the same level. Is that wrong? And if so, do you know the respective advantages and disadvantages of "floor-to-ceiling windows" compared to "patio doors" and roughly how much extra it might cost if we switch to "patio doors" afterwards (during the selection process?)?

There are basically two main differences. A window has no fittings on the outside, but the door does. The window has a tilt-and-turn function, the door does not. Balcony doors also have a lower threshold at the bottom instead of a window frame.

With the windows, you step over a more or less large edge. The very low thresholds of the balcony doors are quite sensitive (our window maker told us this and now we see: he was right ). So it is not bad to have a small threshold and thus always have a good seal. If you equip the windows with a small handle on the outside and a locking mechanism so that they can remain closed against some wind or drafts even in the lever "open" position, you have a pretty good solution.

Neither the chosen terrace doors nor the windows are really "floor-to-ceiling" windows.
There is always a frame around them. At the bottom, there is a (recessed) threshold.
Floor-to-ceiling glazing is something different.

Floor-to-ceiling windows could, in the worst case, also be fixed glazing, then it becomes really difficult to go outside.

I just checked with us, we have floor-to-ceiling windows on the ground floor and basement, then an exit to the terrace through a double-leaf door (terraced house, picture attached). The threshold to the terrace is exactly the same height as the "threshold" of our floor-to-ceiling windows, it does not bother us at all. Just ask your construction company directly if there are generally any differences.
