For BAFA funding, the heat pump must be listed in the corresponding list and a specialist contractor declaration for the calculation of the annual performance factor must be available; there is also a BAFA form for this, in which the executing company enters the hot water and heat demand as well as the model, from which a theoretical annual performance factor results. If this is above (or equal to) 4.5, the subsidy is granted, otherwise not. Practice afterwards is considered irrelevant.

Combination of pellet and air-to-water heat pump: Primarily energy-wise, a bivalently operated air-to-water heat pump can make sense and BAFA funding is not excluded here if the secondary energy source is renewable. This applies to pellets.

Overall, the whole thing naturally becomes more expensive, so the savings are of no use. If you want a fireplace in the living area, it is certainly the most ecologically clean solution and also more comfortable compared to the classic wood stove. But do not underestimate the space requirements for the additionally larger storage tank and the pellet storage.

The lists for the annual performance factor only help to a limited extent, as an annual performance factor is calculated for your location and your conditions. So please clarify with the energy consultant before you allocate the funds.

As far as economic viability is concerned, I agree with my predecessors: alone the costs for the chimney sweep exceed any potential energy savings of the air-water heat pump. Oh, the maintenance costs of the additional heating system are also greater than any potential energy savings. That means even if you were given the pellet stove, the piping, the additional control technology, the chimney AND the square meters for pellet storage as a gift, in the end you pay more.

I would leave the pellet stove alone, buy a regular wood stove, it doesn't cost a fortune. Just compare the additional costs.

Thanks to everyone. I have now inquired at Bafa and it is possible to apply for both at the same time. Total funding around 1500 for the air-water heat pump and 2000 for the pellet stove. Additional costs for the pellet stove with storage and installation about 6000 €, so we would have to add 4000 €. It will take years to pay off. I suggested to my husband to buy a nice wood-burning stove and leave it at that [emoji16]

On the topic of wood-burning fireplaces in new buildings, there are several interesting threads here in the forum. I recommend you read them, Daniela.

Hello Hello

Why not do without the heat pump and use the pellet stove as the sole heating?

Bafa funding
Pellet stove 2000€
20m2 solar thermal 3000€
Combination bonus 500€
