An oil heating system, like pellets or even logs, has a significant drawback: you have to (constantly) take care of ensuring there is enough fuel available. My father has a wood gasification system for an entire old farmstead. In winter, he has to fill the stove once a day with logs and restart it. One week of vacation in winter = house frozen and damaged. And the wood doesn’t come to his farm by itself. So he has to spend half the winter sawing wood. Calculating these hours, it would be cheaper to buy the wood ready-made. (which is why I also buy our wood for the fireplace and don’t help him with it...)
