Windows in black or anthracite? Heating issue

after much consideration, we have now decided to choose an aluminum shell (Aluskin at Aluplast 8000). The main reason is the hope that the color will stay beautiful longer, and colored surfaces on aluminum look much nicer than on plastic.

But we are not quite decided on the color yet... Since RAL 7021 is now also possible on aluminum, this has put RAL 7016 out of the running (and we only see blue in it). RAL 9005 might be too harsh after all.

Neither - I would go at most for RAL 7012. Everything else I personally find too dark and too heat-absorbing in the blazing sun. Otherwise, the two colors you mentioned are already extremely different. For me, DB703 is out because it's too special.

I can tell you that your, actually our entire house, has been painted with thermal insulation in 7016 (anthracite, almost black) and it does not heat up. Even at the facade paint mixing, a salesperson at the hardware store advised us against it. It looks great and it is cool, so go ahead and take the risk with the window installation. Near us there is currently a construction site that is also building with black windows, even with muntins, and a white facade, it looks fantastic. I will gladly take a photo for you.

Have you ever been in a black car in the summer? That is exactly as cool as a window frame. You can't compare facade insulation to a window frame.

We have (almost) gotten through the first summer with wood-aluminum windows, a wood-aluminum front door, and also a garage door in RAL 9005. Door, garage, and floor-to-ceiling French doors on the south side. I didn’t burn myself on the door and it looks great, nothing has cracked so far, we are glad we did it.
In the old house, we had Ral 7016 plastic windows, which did make some noise in the evenings sometimes when it cooled down in summer, but not disturbing, and nothing warped in almost 15 years (not even on the south and west side).

Physics is physics is physics. The summer of 2024 was anything but record-breaking and really cannot serve as proof that a completely black box works. Let it be over 30°C for 4 or 5 weeks straight, some days even breaking 40°C, no cooling rain... such summers have happened quite a few times already...

Then one can claim it’s no problem... I also know people who claim they manage without winter tires. But they don’t have to go out to work in wind and weather, and we haven’t had really harsh winters with weeks of ice and snowfall for a long time either.

You can twist and turn it however you want. Black windows are significantly more susceptible to expansion and the associated problems and damages, and the same goes for dark facades. Material also fatigues over time if it is constantly expanding and contracting. The more intense, the sooner the fatigue.
