Hello everyone, I recently got a new front door and windows in the entrance area. I received a window sill connection strip and now I am wondering, isn’t that a thermal bridge? I have triple glazing and I believe an 88mm window frame, and the narrow strip ruins a lot again. Outside there is an aluminum window sill and inside a granite window sill was placed in front of the strip. I am just asking out of interest, since I can’t change much anymore anyway.

The connection profiles are a weak point that should be considered. Monolithic masonry, granite windowsill on the inside and aluminum on the outside is the least favorable option.

In new buildings with ETICS, care can be taken to ensure that the insulation is not only inserted into the reveals but also that appropriate wedges are used under the windowsill. This also makes sense without ETICS in monolithic constructions.
In existing buildings, it is also possible to underpin corresponding windowsills externally with insulation and preferably choose a wooden windowsill inside or only a thin granite sill, which is also underpinned with insulating material (XPS / PU).

There are also some connection profiles made of PU with PE reinforcement that therefore provide high thermal protection by themselves, but most are simply PE ribbed elements.

Yes, I already suspected something like that. I find it a pity that no one draws attention to it. Selling a great window and ignoring the rest. But I am also partly to blame, as I dealt with it too late. Thank you

We installed our aluminum windows on so-called "warm window sills." However, this must already be taken into account during the planning phase. The floor-to-ceiling windows also stand on explicitly suitable Klinaryt bases. These insulate much better than the common spreading profiles and can withstand very high loads (lift-and-slide window 5000mm with over 550kg).

Here as an attachment an example of a "warm window sill"

If you google that, only Polish websites come up... Is there no German product for that? Or do only the Poles do it that way? I've never heard of it before...

By the way... @12ant can you, as an expert on the subject, contribute something? Why are the warm windowsills and floor connection profiles made of Purenit or Klinaryt so rare in this country? In Poland, for example, they are almost taken for granted. Do they also have disadvantages? This is what our Klinaryt profiles for floor-to-ceiling windows look like. For every window profile, there is a matching milling.
