Which type of funding should I choose? KfW, BAFA, tax?

Yes, it can be possible if you do everything according to the BAFA standard. But it is also very expensive. However, the statement "roughly KfW55" is also dangerous if your loan/grant depends on it. That’s the advantage with the tax thing... It’s hard to judge without details about the house. We are currently renovating a house from 1936 that already has 8cm exterior insulation ETICS. We are doing the roof new (according to BAFA guidelines), windows new (according to BAFA guidelines), and insulating the basement ceiling. Still, we don’t even come close to KfW55, but end up between 85 and 100. Friends of ours are starting a renovation soon – they are doing everything completely new and end up at KfW70 or 85 – so also not at 55. Unfortunately, the year of construction 1961 is on average not known for super solid build quality.

It’s similar for us. If we did everything according to the renovation plan, we would easily be below 55 in terms of primary energy demand on paper, but due to transmission energy loss, it still doesn’t go below a KFW100.

Just a question that thematically fits quite well here (hope that's okay, I don't think a separate thread is worth it):

I want to have my roof renovation (insulation <0.14) subsidized through taxes. With individual measures, I can only apply for €60,000 per year and actually want to apply for the heating renovation for this year. Therefore, the subsidy through income tax fits quite well.

Do roof renovations also include plumbing, scaffolding, and disposal of the old roof? (for me, that's actually quite clear) Are there possibly any problems if the invoices for carpenters/roofers and plumbing are from different companies? The confirmation of achieving the Uw value can really only be issued by the carpenter.

Thank you very much

For me as a layperson: What would need to be different to achieve KfW55?

Better insulation (roof and/or windows and/or facade and/or basement ceiling etc.) My mid-60s house almost meets the 40 standard. Everything is possible.

May I ask how many cm of facade insulation you have installed and what material (plus thickness) your exterior walls are made of?
