Hello everyone,

We are looking for an IP cam for our driveway as well as the entrance area. The 5442 series from Dahua looks very good. Therefore, I have planned an IP-B5442E-ZE for the driveway area. This will be mounted in a corner at about 2.50m and should cover the driveway at a 90° angle. The range would be only 10m. Is the bullet shape suitable for this or would an eyeball model be better?

The entrance area is significantly more complex. Here, at least 180° should be covered. Additionally, it goes down quite a few steps. The area behind the house should also be visible if possible. Is the IPC-HDPW5442G-Z suitable for this? Or what is the best way to cover the area? Unfortunately, I only have a Simplex CAT cable installed as you can see in the photo.

The IP-B5442E-ZE would fit in the yard according to the data. But immediately think about bird deterrence.
A dome camera is less conspicuous to equip with a roof and is not a bird perch.

In the entrance area, you could use a PTZ (as mentioned). But I would rather look for a fixed 180°. PTZ makes sense with multiple cameras with overlaps and active monitoring. Let's not even talk about motion detection now...
I'm more familiar with Axis, Mobotix, Vivothek.
Possibly Hikvision ds-2cd2t45g0p-i (1.68mm)?
Really cool would be a Vivothek ms9390-hv

... don't forget: The camera must not even give the impression that public spaces could be monitored! Therefore, PTZ cameras are rather excluded ...

(so-called "surveillance pressure" must not arise)

And: People entering the property should be informed about this (put up a sign)

Ignoring the "rules" can potentially become very expensive

Why? A black PTZ dome or a dome in general doesn't even reveal where it is currently looking. It's different with turrets or bullets (which are mostly better than domes, the interested neighbor then just gets shown my masking). Otherwise, I would only use PTZ where you really need to look in many different directions. Usually, the camera is looking exactly where the event is not happening.

well, the legislator has ruled often enough. The impression must not arise in the first place (surveillance pressure). Whether this is rather caused by a PTZ camera ?!? ... hmm. Everyone has to decide for themselves. Just wanted to point out that this should possibly be considered to avoid potential future legal disputes

There are rulings that masking is not sufficient and sometimes a privacy screen had to be installed. Put up a discreet dome camera (120° or so) and have it face the garage. Even if someone looks more closely, they are more likely to think the gate is being monitored. Because the camera is wide-angle, you can also see the yard. Nobody recognizes a PTZ anyway. But that is not relevant for your application. You must (by law) put up a sign. But where there is no plaintiff... I rather suspect that the sign just "alerts" people... I wouldn’t put one up. If there is a complaint, you can still improve it later. In the first step, there are no severe penalties for private individuals. It is easier for us because we have only one entrance. A sign goes there. Within my property, I can then monitor... My (only) neighbor even suggested monitoring part of his property as well. I could also install the cameras there...
