well, the amount of time spent is a bit exaggerated here... What is, for me, a factor not to be underestimated is that you simply have a good feeling when you do something on the house yourself. For example, I wouldn't just want to have everything done for me.

But that only works if you can afford the luxury of buying the plot next door.

My calculation regarding self-performed work was quite simple: how much do I earn in the same time (i.e. travel time + realistic working hours) and how much will the construction company credit me for this trade (just labor, I still need the material)? Added to that is the risk factor that you mess something up and have to redo it. I generally did not want to do work that could hold up other trades or affect the warranty. Otherwise later comes "We couldn’t do it properly because you already did this and that..."

Of course, that is a certain basic requirement, but you can accomplish quite a lot in a day on the weekend.

In my opinion, that is an oversimplification. The time you spend on construction (evenings/weekends/holidays) you generally do not work.

Matter of opinion – free time with my family is also valuable to me. So you can definitely weigh whether you want to have vacation or prefer to spend the time on the construction site. Since I already work fairly a lot and travel a lot, the deal was clear for me.

We will do quite a bit for the outdoor area – a bit of turf and putting together a terrace we can manage ourselves, and I found the offers quite ambitious. But I don’t trust myself to neatly lay the 90x90 tiles. And the expected credit for the wallpapering work was nothing to get rich from. It was similar with the parquet. The construction company seems to buy the materials so cheaply that there wasn’t as much saving potential as I initially thought.

What is a day on the weekend? The TE has 100 km to drive one way. With the GU, everything is tightly scheduled. They will not wait for the TE for the next 5 weeks.

I drive that every day and am still in the office before 6. That means you could definitely be on the construction site before 8 and work accordingly long.
