Everyone told me back then that vinyl in combination with underfloor heating only just sticks. Regardless of the underfloor heating, loosely laid vinyl is also not ideal, especially with large window surfaces and corresponding sunlight, because it expands and contracts accordingly.

Regarding the carpet, which insulates almost additionally, it limits the heat output of the underfloor heating. If it's just a design carpet runner about one meter by one meter and doesn't cover half the room, I think it can be neglected. Unless the underfloor heating is already too barely sized.

But isn’t floating installation actually better? Provided that appropriate expansion joints and wall clearances are in place, it can then also move accordingly and doesn’t form waves, or did I misunderstand something?

Hello "Heidi1965". You notice, the knowledge from collective intelligence does not always provide what one needs. For underfloor heating, bonding PVC planks is certainly the best option. With floating installation (that was the one with the HDF core), the effectiveness of the underfloor heating is reduced due to the higher thermal resistance, but depending on the manufacturer's specifications, installation of the elements is quite possible. For guidance on which covering might be suitable for your intended use, you should best refer to the pictogram printed on every covering package. I would not go below the usage class 23/32 for living areas. The pictogram shows this! A carpet on the design flooring may not matter for underfloor heating and a small covered area. However, if a nearly full-surface laying of a carpet is planned regarding the total area, it can only be discouraged. You will not be able to heat the living space in winter! But, as mentioned, a small carpet, for example under the table, is harmless.

Designer floors are a high-margin and ephemeral fashion trend. I would not install a plastic floor – no matter what expert reports are presented to me. In the stores where these floors are available, there is always the same smell. A knave who thinks evil of it.

Better linoleum than plastic. There are very beautiful linoleum floors.

I second that and also recommend rubber!
