It probably depends on the respective municipality. We dug the trench ourselves, then called the responsible people, who came half an hour later (and that on January 2) Gas line in, water in, done. The electricity wanted another little trench but had no time in winter. So it got an empty conduit... It apparently really depends on the municipality, and how you communicate with them beforehand...

Certainly, it depends on how busy the community is. In some areas, you have to wait 6 months because the order books are full. In others, they don’t know what to do and then come on the same day.

Of course, with us, the applications for water/sewage, telecom/cable/Vodafone for new connections were submitted first, the electrician took care of the electricity. With the positive notice, we got in touch and arranged a tentative construction date and obtained the TEL number of the person in charge/master. For water, we even had to use their empty conduits (blue).

In Berlin, this has been mandatory for a long time.

How was the construction water supplied then? Did the predecessor have an outdoor water tap? Allegedly, the outdoor water tap at our predecessor doesn’t have the necessary inch size?! 1/2 is needed or 1/4 or vice versa, to have the necessary pressure (e.g., to rinse the workers’ equipment). As I said, it’s all just hearsay. Another possibility for us would be to use the hydrant on the other side of the street (1300€ deposit and to be picked up in Spandau). In addition, there would be the official permit whether we are allowed to lay it across the street, because there are also buses and general traffic there.

We also looked into IBC containers. We saw this option here in Berlin at a larger construction site (Bahnhofstr. in Köpenick). It’s not so expensive in terms of cost, but if it worked at the predecessor’s place it would of course be easier. But the question remains how you got the water from front to back.

Best regards and have a relaxing Sunday!
