Almost two years have passed since my initial post. What has changed since then?

Actually, not much... the automation still does what it’s supposed to, error-free like a Swiss watch. But small things have been replaced, parameters adjusted. Tunable white lights added, etc. ... but a few things have been added, such as Apple TV, Google Nest Hubs, Bosch Homeconnect, and since my Smartvisu has gotten old and I no longer feel like maintaining it, I switched to Homeassistant and am currently building the new visualization.

Furthermore, a few devices have reached the end of their lifecycle and have been replaced. Such as the solar thermal control, circulation pump... and also through my own fault two KNX devices went out of service and two due to water ingress.

Three of them were revived. Once a transistor was broken, in another the UART, and the third had a minor water damage that could be quickly fixed. Unfortunately, one temperature sensor did not survive (major water damage).

Conclusion after almost 10 years of continuous operation: positive.

Just for information on the side... devices from these manufacturers are directly or indirectly involved in the home automation and are usually accessible and operable from every platform via browser/app in the visualization or are used by devices within the system.

ABB, GIRA, Busch-Jäger, Berker, Hager, Jung, G-U Secury, Enertex, Woertz, Lingg&Janke, Elsner, MDT, Siemens, Wolf, Honeywell, Raspberry Pi, Fritzbox, Samsung, Allnet, Linksys, Merten, Rademacher, Roto, Junkers, Techno-Trend, SICK, Zennio, Daikin, Denon, Google NEST, Apple, Xiaomi, Bosch, Constructa, Teufel, Acer, QNAP, Junkers, Cosmo and others which I can’t think of right now.

How many KNX sensors/actuators have passed away without external influence (water damage) in the 10 years?

But it can also be different:

For me, a binary input (MDT) and the weather station (Theben) broke down within 3 years.
In addition, I replaced the blind actuators (MDT) due to an error which was fixed by a new revision.

I have to say I have always approached MDT with caution. Unlike, for example, the INSTA group. Here I know that you can practically hit it with a hammer (figuratively speaking) and the devices still work.

Sure, the prices of MDT and the Made in Germany logo cannot be ignored. But defects with this manufacturer are more common compared to others. However, this may also be because in private house construction, builders often choose MDT, so the resulting picture is volume-related. Gaussian normal distribution, basically. But the positive thing about MDT is that they are very accommodating and fast. Still, when I see another house with the glass switches, I don’t know, it gives the impression as if there were nothing else.

Theben had problems with the first Meteodatas.

What was defective about the binary input and the weather station?

At the weather station, a brightness sensor was defective and was replaced as a goodwill gesture. The 16-channel binary input was dead. It could no longer be reset or programmed.

And in my opinion a very good application...
