Are there any other ideas to position the garage(s) differently? Taking into account the additional problem that the roof shape and pitch must correspond to the main building.

Thank you the 30-35k is now only what is moved around the house and intercepted, or are the basement earthworks already included?

Do you happen to have any idea where the requirement for fall protection is regulated? Allegedly it is a state matter, but I can't find anything about it (tomatoes on the eyes not excluded) in the state building code. TÜV Süd writes something about a DIN standard, but that seems to be only a "may" requirement and not a "must" requirement. We would not put a lavish railing on the garage now. Here a decorative rod mat fence would be sufficient for us, which we would probably generally choose as a fence. I have already heard that for our French balcony the bars may only run horizontally if they are covered with glass/plexiglass so that they cannot be misused as a ladder to climb over.

Google "bauordnung Hessen absturzsicherung". The first link states that as soon as you can fall 1m from an object, you need a railing. Just a tip before you look for prices. Online prices for railings are only suitable if you install it yourself. Otherwise, you have to roughly double the online price. I once researched this myself for a raised terrace.

The cellar, excavation, landfill, and transport are not included. Modeling isn't even the most expensive part. After the L-bricks, filling the terrace, paths, and driveway came in second. Adding and compacting 25cm of gravel cost something around 6-7k€. I can provide exact numbers once I get the final invoice for the trade in two weeks.

Also, you can't just put your entire excavation there or recycle it.

Thanks again

In the meantime, I was able to google the state law (BW) after all. The implementing regulation of the state building code.

We can still choose whether we prefer plague or cholera. More removal or more filling and catching :-P :-/

Rather filling. When removing, you might be unlucky and the soil is z1.2 or something. Then disposal becomes really expensive. Filling and catching is more predictable.

I haven't read that so far (?) - is that supposed to apply always, or only when attached?

I had also forgotten this, therefore unfortunately not mentioned in the initial post. Unfortunately, an addendum is not possible. After mentally moving the house and garage back and forth, it was reminded to me again yesterday. So now I doubt my sanity. I could have sworn I read about roof shape and pitch. Now I only find the requirement for attached buildings, which should ease the situation a bit. "Attached buildings must have the same roof pitch." With attached buildings, I am currently wondering whether the garage counts as part of the overall building. Because here there is the requirement to comply with a maximum building total length of 16 m. In my naivety, I did not think about attached buildings. But it sounds like in that case, the garage and house would form the total length, right? "The differing construction method is allowed, but with a limitation on the maximum permitted total building length of 16 m."
