What did you spend on your front door?

I have two offers for our front door in hand. One is for €4900 for a beautiful, cozy aluminum front door. The other is a standard aluminum front door without much fuss for €3730. We have been wondering for weeks which one to choose. Here is the amazing equipment - rather trivial, I would say:

[*]Filling only covers the outside sash
[*]Outside push handle Magic approx. 1600mm long
[*]1 side panel

What have you spent? Is it normal that they are so expensive? In the hardware store, you can get some for €400 (which, without a doubt, cannot compete in quality), but around €5000 is quite steep, isn’t it?

We obtained quotes from Hörmann and were overwhelmed that the aluminum front door with a small (glazed) sidelight should cost around EUR 7,000 (flush on inside and outside, colored inside and outside, otherwise "normal"). Alternatives for us currently are a door from Hörmann from their front door range, have a look on their homepage (Front Door Weeks). If you like the designs, you should be able to get a good deal. Second option is a painted solid wood door from the carpenter. Costs significantly less than aluminum front doors (also like your door without any fuss). We currently tend towards the second alternative, as good insulation values are also achieved there.

I had a front door installed by Hören *** and so far I have no complaints, my window installer said they had some problems in the past but have improved recently.

How did you come to that proud price Nordanney? I paid €4,150 including VAT for mine (1500*2250, of which 500 mm glazed side panel, including motorized lock).

It was quite simple. Top Prestige Plus model, dimensions similar to your door, double sash overlap, anthracite color, side panel triple glazing, stainless steel handle bar, 7-point locking. And "voila" the offer was too expensive!

That really sounds cheap. Where did you get it from? Was it included in a complete house offer?
