We have a power issue with electric car charging stations in Germany!

Hello everyone,

my friends and I are increasingly noticing that there are growing problems with the use of public charging stations for electric cars. Although more and more stations are being installed, it seems as if there is not enough electricity available?! My friends and I, who are electric car drivers, report stations that do exist but often do not supply power. This leads to frustration and uncertainty among the users. It strongly appears that the grid expansion has been neglected; the infrastructure does not keep pace with the increase in electromobility. In my opinion, more should be invested in a stable and reliable power supply here!

Just my 2 coints

Where have you experienced something like that? It hasn’t been relevant to me so far. 22kW may have only charged 21.x kW despite 30% battery, but you never know if it’s the car or the charging station.

What I hate are stations that are shown as e.g. 6/6 150kW. These are very often 4x22kW + 1x150kW/2x75kW.

I charge at home. That always works so far. How it will be when the energy providers can throttle, I do not know yet.

Wise decision! After all, this is also a house building forum.

This statement is about as intelligent as "Gas prices are rising? I don't care, I always fill up for 20 EUR."

And yes, indeed, besides bridges, roads, and railways, the next fiasco is threatening here.

Apart from the fact that most apps cannot be relied on... yesterday DKV stubbornly showed me 4/6 free charging points at Ionity, but in reality only one was free... the number of charging points is now also questionably low, waiting times are increasing... and there are no parking spaces provided for waiting, so in front of the charging points it is pure chaos. The elbow rules. Anyone who doesn’t also act aggressively and simply grabs a spot can easily wait an hour.

They want to win people over to electric cars. But that doesn’t work if every longer trip becomes a logistical nightmare and you always have to exit at 30% because you don’t know if maybe 5 cars are already waiting there and you have to drive on to the next possibility.

At the moment, this phenomenon only occurs during the main holiday season. During the week, I am usually alone at one of 6-12 charging points.

Find the mistake...
You have to decide whether it is rubbish at the moment or you are constantly standing in front of unoccupied charging stations.
