Well, you’d have to build it so that the pipe is maybe stretched over the trash can with a kind of tent, so that nothing spills. Yeah, the thing with the trash bin in the kitchen is crap... we tried that but with all the trash bins you need nowadays it’s just too much. Every kitchen drawer is just full of trash bins now.

Trash can in the kitchen is a mess? Then maybe you take out the trash too rarely or produce an disproportionate amount of it? Organic and residual waste aren't really huge quantities. Plastic can (unfortunately) take up a lot of volume, but that there's so little space for just one big bin? Hard for me to imagine. Glass isn't thrown away daily, paper (at least for me) mostly accumulates by the door (mail) or in the study. Hard to say much without planning. You can also plan a window at that spot, at least for paper, plastic, and glass.

Well, we now have a garbage bag in the kitchen for organic waste because you have to dispose of it almost daily so it doesn’t smell. The bins are always dirty and soaked and then start to smell pretty quickly. You produce endless plastic in a yellow bag which I then put in the basement, and there it starts to smell thanks to yogurt cups, etc. Paper waste is debatable... pizza boxes, etc. Then there is the bin for residual waste and mixed smelly stuff which also usually has to be taken out every 2-3 days so it doesn’t smell.

Are you currently living in an apartment? Then that would not be comparable to a house, where you go in and out so often that the trip to the trash is much less "effortful".

So, large cardboard goes straight into the cardboard bin, small stuff goes into the yellow bag. Organic waste is collected in a container with a lid and taken out once a day. Screw the glass shut and put it in a box in the utility room. Residual waste is quite rare in the kitchen, at least I can't think of anything, sorry. So one bucket for the yellow bag and a bowl for organic waste. No need for a thousand buckets.

So the idea is really brilliant. Thermal bridge and stale smell/stench included.

The question of kitchen planning is not addressed either.

We solved it like this in our place. We have the Blanco Select XL 60/3 Orga in the base cabinet as a front pull-out. In the large bin plastic and in the 2 small ones residual and organic waste.
Of course, we try to save plastic waste, which is not so easy. The bins are then emptied as needed. And a little exercise never hurts. It definitely does not stink here. And there are no trash bags lying around like the thread starter has...
In a large separate pull-out drawer we organize paper and glass. Although we don’t have much disposable glass waste.
