Yes exactly, that is a striped non-woven fiber wallpaper. The textured areas are thicker, so you can't see the irregularities of the plaster as much. The smooth areas are thinner, so irregularities show through unattractively.

Unfortunately, you can't generalize that, because Q2 does not define the smoothness but the work steps. Whether the result is good or less good depends on the applicator. Therefore, there is Q2 plaster that looks like a crater landscape and such that might even be mistaken for Q3/Q4.

Objection! These are the quality levels, which of course can only be achieved with several work steps and are indeed associated with the surface texture.

That this is true in theory, I do not want to doubt. In practice, however, you can plaster/sand this way or that, and then the result is either "very smooth" or "just barely acceptable." Example: We currently have Q3 without painter's fleece, but when I compare that with the "only" Q2 in the new building, for me even Q2 wins in terms of surface quality.

qzwo is finished for textured wallpaper in painter's jargon, so already quite basic and rough. You can manage it with thick fleece, or with another coat of fine filler plus sanding. If you want to paint qzwo like that, you have to trick it, for example with a filling paint that contains sand grains. Sto Putzgrund is something like that.

I can confirm this for us: we got quite good Q2, painted it looks the way we wanted: quite smooth, but with some natural texture. Painted, it looks as intended. Only now, after a few years, the cracks are appearing. In two years, we will need to apply primer again, then the cards will be reshuffled.
