We were advised by the police advisory office to primarily invest in mechanical security for the windows and doors. Afterwards, possibly video technology and an alarm system. Especially if the perpetrators are masked, video recording no longer makes much sense. A secure window or a secure patio door, which cannot be easily pried open or broken, makes more sense.

I see video surveillance as an addition to all the other measures such as: mushroom heads, multiple locks, VSG, and alarm systems.

Only when all of this is in place can one consider video cameras. Cameras without passive protection are IMHO pointless. The resolution and amount of light must of course be right. A white noise image helps little.

What are the general experiences of the users? Do night shots make sense to identify people?

The person must already look directly into the camera at a distance of no more than 3-4m and it must be at least a 3MP camera.

Anything below that is IMHO gimmickry. You can recognize the person themselves but details like the face etc. are difficult to identify. But that's just my opinion.

If a break-in occurs at our place, the lights throughout the entire house will turn on (several hundred LED watts!) as well as 4 LED floodlights outside. Since we also have domes inside, there should be something useful on them somewhere. The cams also serve to check if everything is okay while on vacation. There could also be a false alarm.

Hello

Experience: About 2.5 years ago, I was able to record two property transformers disguised with balaclavas behind the terrace in the garden at around 4:00 AM. Not me, but the camera that is installed there. The police did not make much effort. There were only two men with masks. But I still recommend cameras. The stupid burglars do not disguise themselves. And the "good guys" do not hesitate to commit a robbery anyway. I have already experienced this as well. The police were not particularly diligent then either.
